Logline

A young woman on an old island transforms her home with the help of a monster from the sea. But the islanders are afraid of the rapid change and become a threat.

Synopsis

Uma is a young woman who feels like a stranger on an old island. When a prehistoric monster called Omu is washed ashore, it gives her the power to change the island forever. In the shelter of the rugged cliffs of Mosselbay, she builds a close bond with the creature. With every touch, new and beautiful plants and creatures appear, and Uma begins to hope that she can shape her home the way she wants it.

But as the changes become more visible, fear grows among the old inhabitants. Uma's grandmother asks her to be careful, but it is too late. While Uma is away, the islanders decide to kill Omu. By then it is not only the island that has changed. Uma, too, is no longer who she was.

The film is about the wish to change a rigid order quickly, and about a society that cannot take in that change in a healthy way. It borrows motifs from horror for the first encounters with the monster, then slowly takes the fear apart.
