Synopsis
The Inner Edge is a virtual reality experience about the inner world of a coma patient. We see everything through the eyes of a father who lies in a coma after an accident. His daughter Sarah accompanies him through fragments of memory. She appears as a glowing orb of light, and her voice slowly builds the world around him and helps him remember his life and himself.
It begins in nothing: darkness, a pulse, then light. At the heart of the experience is a forest, photorealistic and dreamlike at the same time. Stones are stacked, a tree once meant something, seasons melt into each other. Between the beauty, something dark grows: a black hole in the ground that gets bigger each time, and the realisation that his body is lying somewhere on a road.
The worlds are built from real places, captured with a custom multi-camera and drone rig and turned into Gaussian splats. A renderer developed for Unreal Engine lets the user explore and change these worlds in real time. The first chapter is being developed as a vertical slice of about 20 minutes.
